Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important representative stated the attack made him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
